The management of status migrainosus is controversial:

  • the current medication should be stopped
  • intravenous steroids may help
  • intravenous dihydroergotamine (0.5 mg) with metoclopramide (10 mg) 8 hourly may be effective
  • treatment of anxiety or depression, when present, may help
