Cognitive behavioural therapy in psychosis is promising but not of proven value. The approach taken is that psychotic symptoms are the result of normal attempts to make sense of of abnormal perceptions.

Therapy attempts to distract attention from the abnormal perceptions and to alter the patient's beliefs.
