Axillary nodal status and prognosis

Three factors concerning lymphatic spread of breast carcinoma have an influence on prognosis:

  • number of involved nodes
  • level of disease
  • extent of tumour within nodes

The number of involved nodes has a greater prognostic significance than either the level of disease or the extent of tumour within individual nodes.
