Scurvy is most commonly seen in infants aged 6-24 months.
Vague symptoms, for example, irritability and anorexia, are followed by bruising, petechiae, and subperiosteal and gingival bleeding.
The affected child is usually pale and miserable, and resents handling because of the painful subperiosteal bleeding.
Retro-orbital bleeding with proptosis and periorbital ecchymosis may be apparent.
Wounds heal poorly.
