Vascular contraction

Vascular contraction in haemostasis is usually a result of direct physical damage and mediators released primarily from platelets:

  • serotonin
  • platelet derived growth factor
  • thromboxane A2

It results from activation of actin-myosin fibrils within endothelial cells, and smooth muscle surrounding the damaged vessel.
