Dobutamine has beta-1 and a minor beta-2 action. It is used as an inotropic agent in combination with dopamine, but fails to work in some patients.

Function: augments diastolic coronary blood flow and collateral blood flow to ischaemic myocardium while leading to an increased myocardial contractility, raising cardiac output and lowering left ventricular filling pressures.
