This is identified using labelled glycocholate breath test - abnormal in bacterial overgrowth and terminal ileal disease. In order to discriminate between bacterial overgrowth and terminal ileal disease, use the labelled Selenium HCAT test. It is normal with bacterial overgrowth but abnormal with terminal ileal disease.
