Jejunostomy tubes are fine bore catheters which are placed surgically or at endoscopy.

The advantages of a jejunostomy tube are:

  • feeding can be early after surgery because the small bowel function returns as early as 12 hours post operatively
  • they can bypass any upper gastrointestinal tract pathology
