Warm receptors in the skin increase their rate of firing action potential nerve impulses in direct relation to elevations in temperature over the range 30 to 43 degrees centigrade. The rate soon diminishes again if the same environmental temperature is maintained - adaptation.
A special group of warm receptors may exist for temperatures above 44 degrees centigrade.
