A woman with a diagnosis of transverse or oblique lie after 37 weeks should be admitted to hospital.

The following should be excluded:

  • praevia
  • twins
  • foetal anomaly
  • pelvic tumour
  • polyhydramnios

The following therapies are available:

  • external version
  • stabilising induction
  • elective caesarian section

There is a risk of cord presentation and prolapse. Under such circumstances an immediate caesarian section is essential.
