Prognostic factors for disease severity in RA

The following features predict a poor prognosis:

  • presence of rheumatoid factor
  • presence of HLA D4
  • joint erosions early in the disease
  • increasing numbers of affected joints
  • early disability
  • disease onset at an older age
  • fewer years of formal education
  • presence of extra-articular features
