The steroid regimens in minimal change nephropathy entail:

  • adults:
    • initial dose of prednisolone 60mg daily, reducing after four days to 40mg daily and then maintaining that dose until remission is secured.
    • in patients who do not respond after eight weeks, prednisolone should be tailed off rapidly and the diagnosis reconsidered.
  • children:
    • once the patient is in remission the daily dose of prednisolone should be reduced to 20mg and maintained for a total of 8 weeks, then tailed off.
