Admit immediately if:
- injuries are significant - serious overdose taken such as paracetamol, co-proxamol, tricyclic antidepressant, lithium etc (note that the patient's estimate of drugs taken especially if taken with alcohol, cannot be trusted) - a high suicide risk remains (see sections on asessment of deliberate self-harm and suicide/parasuicide risk assessment) - the psychiatric condition requires admission for treatment
