Bupivacaine is a lipophilic general anaesthetic used for prolonged anaesthesia of slow onset - its half-life is three hours. The maximum dose is 150mg every four hours.
It can be used for regional blocks, epidural blocks and spinal anaesthesia. It is both cardiotoxic and cerebrotoxic.
