The most important diagnostic test for osteoarthritis is the x-ray of the affected joint.

Other investigations include:

  • FBC and ESR are both normal
  • RF is negative, unless osteoarthritis is secondary to rheumatoid arthritis
  • synovial fluid aspiration / microscopy
  • if gout is considered then serum uric acid
