This lesion is seen on an AP view of the hip joint and shows the femoral head out of its socket and above the acetabulum.
Exclusion of a fracture of the acetabulum or femoral head may require multiple views of the hip joint. If there is a suspected femoral or acetabular fracture then sometimes a CT scan may be required to exclude them.
