  • expanding mass:
    • tumour
    • haemorrhage
    • abscess

  • increased cerebral blood volume:
    • vasodilation:
      • hypercapnia
    • venous outflow obstruction
    • venous sinus thrombosis

  • increased CSF:
    • impaired absorption:
      • hydrocephalus
      • benign intracranial hypertension
    • excessive secretion:
    • choroid plexus papilloma

  • cerebral oedema:
    • chronic meningitis
    • hypertensive encephalopathy
    • head injury
