Human T-cell lymphotrophic viruses type I and II are responsible for a range of human disease which may be divided into three categories:

  • neoplastic:
    • adult T-cell leukaemia

  • neurological:
    • tropical spastic paraparesis

  • inflammatory:
    • infective dermatitis
    • uveitis
    • rheumatoid arthritis
    • polymyositis
