Neonatal death

Neonatal death is defined as the death rate between days 0 and 28 - including the 28th day - of life, per thousand live births, of any gestation.

In 1989 the neonatal death rate in England and Wales was 4.8 per 1000 live births.

In 2003 the neonatal death rate in England and Wales was 3.66 per 1000 live births (1).
