proteinuria or nephrotic syndrome (80%)
hypertension (10-50%) seems to depend on the amount of renal damage
haematuria is rare
features of underlying cause e.g. systemic lupus erythematosus, hepatitis B infection, drug history (e.g. penicillamine, gold)
70% of patients with idiopathic membranous nephropathy have a complete or partial spontaneous remission of nephrotic syndrome with stabilisation of renal function
