Rarely, direct blunt abdominal injury causes an abdominal wall hernia. The patient presents with abdominal pain. Ecchymosis of the abdomen and a visible bulge may be seen on examination. A suspected hernia should be investigated by CT scan. The defect should be repaired if possible.
