Massive aneurysmal dilatation of the vein of Galen may result from an arteriovenous malformation in which arteries feed directly into the vein.
Presentation varies with age and reflects the size and severity of the AVM:
Cranial bruits are common.
Mortality and morbidity are high. Clipping the feeding vessels from the carotid and basilar arteries may be successful.
