There are certain treatments to avoid in acute myocardial infarction:

  • type I anti-arrhythmics such as flecainide and lignocaine should not be used to prevent frequent ventricular ectopics - this treatment increases mortality:
    • amiodarone should be given instead

  • quick release calcium channels blockers increase mortality
