Finger movements (segmental supply)

In the neurological examination, the following finger movements should be assessed:

  • test extension - C8, T1 - the patient should hold his fingers flat and not let you push them downwards - the examiner should apply force with the side of his hands across the patient's metacarpophalangeal (MCP) joints.
  • test flexion - C8 - ask the patient to squeeze two of the examiner's fingers and not to let them be pulled away
  • test abduction - C8, T1 - ask the patient to fan out his fingers and not to allow the examiner to push them together
