The indications for sotalol are:

  • ventricular arrhythmias:
    • life-threatening ventricular tachyarrhythmias
    • symptomatic non-sustained ventricular tachyarrhythmias

  • prophylaxis in supraventricular arrhythmias:
    • paroxysmal atrial tachycardia
    • paroxysmal atrial fibrillation
    • paroxysmal A-V nodal re-entrant tachycardia
    • paroxysmal supraventricular tachycardia after cardiac surgery

  • maintenance of sinus rhythm following cardioversion from atrial fibrillation or atrial flutter

In the past sotalol has been used for the treatment of angina and hypertension; these indications are no longer valid because of the proarrhythmic potential of sotalol.
