Treatment is conservative in the first instance:

  • simple analgesia and rest where appropriate
  • a heel raise may help
  • assure that symptoms usually resolve over 12-18 months

If symptoms persist:

  • the tendon should be explored
  • a cyst in the tendon should be drained and any defect in the tendon repaired
