Managing exacerbations of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease
A summary of the management of an acute exacerbation of COPD, with discussion about the appropriateness of issuing "rescue packs" and considerations for the review of patients after an acute exacerbation of COPD.
Pulmonary embolism
A review of the diagnostic approach to pulmonary embolism, including the use of clinical decision tools and the importance of clinical judgement.
Secondary prevention of cardiovascular disease
A summary of the new NICE guideline for the secondary prevention of cardiovascular disease, and an update on statin therapy and alternative lipid-lowering therapies.
Osteoporosis
An exploration into the 2021 Clinical Guideline from the National Osteoporosis Guideline Group. This session will cover questions such as how can we adjust FRAX to take into account additional risk factors? For example, do you know how to factor type 2 diabetes or country of birth into the FRAX scoring system? All will be revealed.
Hypercalcaemia
Here we discuss hypercalcaemia, including how to identify those patients who require immediate admission to hospital, which investigations to do in primary care and the follow-up that these patients require after they have been seen by specialists.
Hidradenitis suppurativa
A review of how we can diagnose and manage hidradenitis suppurativa in primary care. The session will cover issues such as the role metformin plays in management and the associated comorbidities we should be monitoring patients annually for.
