Cautions/contraindications
- caution - statins should be used with caution in those with a history of liver disease or high alcohol intake; it is advised that liver function tests should be undertaken before and within 1-3 months of starting treatment and thereafter at intervals of 6 months and 1 year, or sooner if clinical features suggestive of hepatotoxicity. If serum transaminase concentration rises to, and persists at, 3 times the upper limit of the reference range, then treatment should be discontinued
- contra-indications include:
- active liver disease
- pregnancy.
