- carcinoma
- pleomorphic adenoma
Infiltration from the paranasal sinuses and nasopharynx:
- carcinoma - invasion through the medial wall of the orbit
Affecting the retina:
- retinoblastoma - in children
- melanoma
Affecting the optic nerve:
- pilocytic astrocytoma
- neurofibroma
Affecting the optic nerve sheath:
- meningioma
Infiltrating the lymphoid tissue:
- lymphoma - primary or secondary
Infiltrating the connective tissue:
- rhabdomyosarcoma - in children; highly malignant
Blood borne metastases:
- lung and breast in adults
- neuroblastoma, Ewing's sarcoma, leukaemia in children
