The electroencephalogram is a useful tool in the investigation of epileptic seizures, especially in children and neonates. (1,2) However, it should not be regarded as a pure diagnostic tool; rather it is better in the differentiation of different types of seizure, as follows:
- generalized onset seizures
- focal onset seizures
- generalized and focal onset seizures
- developmental and/or epileptic encephalopathy or progressive neurological deterioration
