Criteria for admission
Admit to hospital if:
- the patient is in an unsafe condition for whatever reason
- the patient cannot be adequately supervised by relatives or trustworthy friends
- the condition requires urgent specialist treatment
- the cause of the derangement is not clear
Most will probably need admitting to hospital urgently.
Do not leave the patient alone.
Avoid drugs if the patient is to be sectioned until the patient has been seen by the consultant and an approved social worker otherwise the process may be legally invalid.
