Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS)
Here we will cover the aetiology and epidemiology of IBS, classical symptoms and variations of symptoms, and how to optimally investigate IBS, including whether investigations are needed in some patients. The session will also examine red flag symptoms and when to refer, treatment options (including non-pharmacological and pharmacological choices) and prognosis.
Rheumatoid arthritis
This session will provide an overview of rheumatoid arthritis, focusing on newer treatments. We will cover the diagnostic criteria, investigations in primary care, the importance of early treatment and the available treatment options.
Renal stones
This session explores the aetiology of renal stones, their risk factors, and both typical and atypical presentations. It will cover primary care investigations and management options, referral and admission criteria, and strategies for prevention.
Bleeding on HRT
A review of the new British Menopause Society (BMS) guidance on the management of unscheduled bleeding on HRT, with a discussion on when to investigate or refer unscheduled bleeding on HRT. The session will also cover the considerations for altering HRT to try to reduce episodes of unscheduled bleeding.
Endometriosis
A discussion about diagnosing endometriosis and the difficulties which result in long delays to diagnosis. The session will also review of the ESHRE guideline, with considerations for the diagnosis and management of endometriosis in adolescents. Finally, the session will summarise options for pain management, hormonal treatments and managing recurrent disease and infertility.
Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS)
A review of the diagnostic factors for PCOS and discussion of the management options, including lifestyle advice and the management of hyperandrogenism and infertility. This session includes a review of the management of the increased cardiovascular risk associated with PCOS.
