Classification of aneurysms
Aneurysms may be true or false:
- a true aneurysm consists, at least in part, of the affected segment of blood vessel or, in the case of ventricular aneurysms, myocardium
- a false aneurysm is an aneurysm whose wall is formed from connective tissue which walls off a haematoma rather than from any part of the vessel wall or myocardium
True aneurysms may be classified according to:
- location
- shape
- aetiology
