Smoking (passive)
Effects of passive smoking on the fetus:
- restricted growth
- increased perinatal mortality
Effects on non-smokers:
- precipitating and sustaining factor in the development of cough, asthma, angina
- increased risk of cancer: non-smoking women are 50% more likely to develop adenocarcinoma of lung if they lived with a smoker than women with non-smoking partners.
- passive smoking accelerates the progression of atherosclerosis
