Acute pharyngitis

Acute pharyngitis is a common condition which is often the result of a viral infection, and is often associated with acute nasal infections. There is erythema of the pharynx and tonsils.

It can be caused by a variety of viral and bacterial pathogens, including group A Streptococcus (GAS), as well, more rarely, fungal pathogens.

It is generally a self-limiting condition with resolution within 2 weeks.
