Of the initial cohort 5 developed oesophageal cancer:

  • 2 defaulted from the surveillance program
  • 2 presented during the interval between endoscopy appointments
  • 1 patient was detected by the surveillance but died post-operatively

The program required:

  • 745 endoscopies
  • 3000 biopsy specimens
