Aetiology of childhood acute pancreatitis

Acute pancreatitis is uncommon in children.

The major causes are:

  • trauma
  • drugs
  • infection
  • pancreas divisum
  • choledochal cyst
  • cystic fibrosis
  • Reye's syndrome

Twenty percent of cases are idiopathic.
