CVS can be performed earlier than amniocentesis, before the pregnancy is obvious
if an abnormality is detected and termination of the pregnancy requested, this can be performed earlier in the pregnancy.
results are usually available within 20 days (compared with a month for amniocentesis); in the case of foetal chromosome analysis, results are available in 24 hours as the cells do not have to be cultured before analysis
