Limitations of cohort studies
These include:
- expense
- non response and drop-outs, which may result in bias
- difficulty in maintaining constant techniques over time
- slow accumulation of the results
- need to test specific hypotheses
- cannot usually test new hypotheses - but many investigators usually take, for example, excess blood in samples which is then stored
- not suitable for rare disease
