Graft-versus host disease may be the consequence of any type of transplantation. However, it is more common in some circumstances:

  • bone marrow transplantation
  • blood transfusion of non-irradiated cells to an immunocompromised individual - for example, patients on chemotherapy, or intrauterine transfusion to a foetus.
