Imaging in acute renal failure
The following imaging techniques are employed in the investigation of acute renal failure:
- renal ultrasound or plain radiography:
- permits determination of renal volume
- may detect renal stones
- renal function may be estimated from radionuclide studies
- obstruction should be excluded by:
- antegrade pyelography or ultrasound (normally)
- retrograde pyelography (rarely)
