Failure to respond to treatment
Failure to respond to initial treatment may be caused by:-
- a wrong diagnosis
- a resistant organism
- other pulmonary disease - pre-existing obstruction or bronchiectasis, or complications such as abscess and empyema
- fever due to an allergic drug reaction
