- direct invasion - gaining attachment to adjacent structures - such as the uterus, broad ligament, omentum or intestine
- peritoneal seeding across the abdominal cavity
- lymphatic spread - reaching the para-aortic glands and in time, the left supraclavicular glands
- haematogenous spread occurs uncommonly, and late
