Trimethoprim
Trimethoprim alone is being increasingly used in certain situations because it has less side-effects than co-trimoxazole.
Cautions:
- renal impairment
- predisposition to folate deficiency
- breast feeding
- FBC in prolonged treatment
Contra-indications:
- severe renal impairment
- pregnancy
- neonates
Routes of administration:
- oral:
- tablets
- suspension
- slow i.v. injection
- i.v. infusion
