The muscular dystrophies may be classified into common and uncommon types.

The common muscular dystrophies are:

  • Duchenne-type, including Becker muscular dystrophy
  • facioscapulohumeral muscular dystrophy
  • limb girdle muscular dystrophy
  • Emery-Dreifuss muscular dystrophy

The uncommon muscluar dystrophies include:

  • distal muscular dystrophy
  • oculopharyngeal muscular dystrophy
  • congenital muscular dystrophy
