Treatment of toxoplasmosis in AIDS

For acute illness in AIDS, toxoplasmosis can be treated with daily:

  • sulphadiazine 4-8g in divided doses
  • and pyrimethamine 50-75mg in divided doses
  • and vitamin supplementation

This should be continued for at least 6 weeks followed by a reduced prophylactic maintenance dose. Dapsone is an alternative for maintenance.
