Tubular carcinoma

Authoring team

Tubular carcinoma of the breast is a form of invasive ductal carcinoma. It constitutes about 2-4% of all breast cancers. Mammography appears to be an effective way of identifying tubular carcinoma.

Macroscopically, they tend to be small lesions with a firm to hard consistency. Histologically, they form a tube lined by a monolayer of epithelium.

Tubular carcinoma has a relatively good prognosis: 10 year survival greater than 70%. This may be due to its tendency to metastasize poorly.
