The major eyelid malignancies are:

  • basal cell carcinoma (rodent ulcer)
    • this is the commonest eyelid malignancy
    • the tumour usually has rolled edges
    • commoner in pale individuals who have been exposed to sun for many years
    • progression is slow and invasion is local
    • treatment involves local excision

  • squamous cell carcinoma (epithelioma)
    • this is more aggressive and requires wide excision
