Distal is an adjective used to describe a point that is further from the trunk of the body than another specified point. Alternatively, distal can describe a site along a nerve or blood vessel that is more distant from its origin e.g. the heart and CNS respectively.

Hence, in the arm the hand is more distal than the elbow.
