Class 1c antiarrhythmics are sodium channel blockers which leave the action potential duration unchanged.
An example of a type 1c drug is flecainide, which may be used in pre-excited atrial fibrillation, but as with all antiarrhythmics, attention must be paid to any proarrhythmic side-effects.
Flecainide may be used to cardiovert a patient with a short duration paroxysm of atrial fibrillation provided there is no evidence of ischaemic heart disease.
